When it comes to kitchen flooring or floor tiles, many people think of vinyl floors. Not many know that it is not just vinyl and there are lots of other options when it comes to tiles. Before zeroing in on a specific tile floor, it is imperative that the person knows what the tile floor is and how it can be handy. When people go for tiles, they just do not go for the aesthetics but they are also keen on the durability of the tiles. They would prefer a kitchen floor that does not require regular maintenance or repair work.

Kitchens are probably one of those areas in a home that sees and bears a lot of traffic. There is a lot of hustle and bustle in a kitchen for most periods of the day. Though vinyl flooring is a good option, it would not really be able to take the brunt and it would invariably end up getting scuffed or scratched. Laminated floors come in handy in this regard and they are able to withstand more pressure effectively. However, the problem with laminate floors is that they cannot be repaired or resealed if at all they get cracked or opened up. Ceramic floors are also known for their durability, however, they are not well known for handling heavy objects and are more likely to get cracked or chipped if a heavy object falls on it with some momentum. The ceramic tiles are pretty hard and they are also very likely to break apart. Ceramic tiles could be a good choice for kitchen countertops.

Floors of a kitchen can be easily maintained and cleaned; one would only need a mop drenched in some hot water. The cleaning agents used for the cleaning should usually be mild; however, one can use abrasive agents if thorough and some hardcore cleaning is needed to be done. With ceramic and vinyl floors, cleaning becomes a pain as these tiles have grout lines that could be difficult to clean at times as the cleaning mops are usually not able to reach those places.

When it comes to the cost of these tiles, then vinyl tiles has to be the least expensive when compared to the other tiles. Ceramic tiles are the costliest and laminate tiles come somewhere in between. This is precisely the reason why ceramic tiles are not very common when compared to vinyl tiles. Most of the mansions and palaces come with ceramic or laminate tiles. As far as installation of these tiles is concerned, it is fairly easy and would not require professional help. This means that there would be no extra installation costs.

Of the three tiles, ceramic tiles are the most durable and have the longest life if maintained properly. If taken good care of, a ceramic tile can last for 50 years. The maximum life of a laminate floor is 30 years, and it is 15 years for the vinyl tiles. It is quite obvious that ceramic tiles are the costliest of them all not only for its looks and durability, but also for its longevity. With 50 years in the bag, there would be no need to replace the flooring and which would therefore mean less costs for the homeowner.

Not many people experiment when it comes to their kitchen floors. However, there are some people who like to see their kitchen floors in some splashy colors and not the same boring versions. If people are keen on experimenting with kitchen floor colors, then they can go for either vinyl or ceramic tiles. These tiles can be made in any color and can come in any design, thus, making them score higher in the versatility department. With this flexibility, it would not be difficult to match the floor colors with the interiors of the kitchen. Laminate tiles are not very flexible and they are primarily made to look natural and replicate the look of a wood or a stone. With such earthly intentions, experimentation with colors literally goes out of the window.

Most of the flooring tiles are very cool when felt. This could be an advantage and sometimes become very inconvenient depending on the weather conditions in the specific area. If a person lives in a cold area, then it is recommended that he goes for carpets, rugs or any other material that could cover the floor to some extent and also give some warmness. Most of the tiles also feel very soft and vinyl tiles are the softest of the three. Vinyl tiles due to its soft texture are very easy on the feet and it is also on the quieter side in comparison.

At the end of the day, it is all about personal choices and preferences as each of the three tiles have their own merits and negatives and the decision to install one ultimately rests on the shoulders of the person doing the home decorating.
